They would usually take hundreds of years for a typical computer to process. WebFolding at home is an attempt to crowdsource GPU and CPU power from regular people in order to get these calculations done quicker. I might have some things wrong but this is the best explanation I can give as I am short on time and this also isn’t my field of study.
