Hi, Im new to the Forum, this is my second post :seeya: I recently bought an 86E TPI and its got an interesting set of issues, especially with idle. Id like some opinions and input to start planning a repair route please. Its got a freshly rebuilt motor and trans, AIR pump delete, EGR is connected ... WebMar 7, 2010 · If you drive it and shut it off and try to restart it is very hard to start. Most of the time it barely starts. It always turns over fine but barely starts. It does run fine when running. The dash flickers but think it is unrelated. When I checked the injectors cold they all were about 16 ohms.

Cold starts with clicking or knocking could be piston slap. When the aluminum block engine is cold, there is too much clearance between the cylinder bore and the piston. They tend to loosen up and leak on the exhaust manifolds, causing smoke. Also look for wrong base gasket or one that is installed wrong. If engine has been spitting back, it may have blown out the base gasket or a gasket in the carb.
