WebBorn in 1901, Giacometti grew up in an alpine village in Bregaglia, Switzerland. He was the eldest child of Giovanni Giacometti, a post-impressionist painter, and Annetta Giacometti-Stampa. As a teenager, surrounded by his father’s paintings, books and art journals, Giacometti began to make drawings, oil paintings and sculptures.
